How I Got This Way...
I am seventy-one years old, and I must admit that in many ways the world has passed me by. Let’s face it. I was around when hippies came on the scene.
I do not carry a computer in my pocket. I do not dress in the latest confusing fashion. I do not dye what is left of my hair in rainbow colors. I do not work hard at being noticed, and I remember when “gay” meant happy. Back in 1968, I was a young police officer filling in at the front desk so the officer usually there could get a bite to eat. A young man dressed in cowboy boots, short shorts, a t-shirt cut rather badly into a plunging neckline, a dark blue cape, heavy eyeliner, and lipstick came flapping into the space nearly crying. He complained that people were laughing at him. To quote Marshal Ruben Beeler, “I was kindly took aback.” I asked the distressed individual if anyone had approached him, attacked him, or done anything to his person. He said no, but nearly shrieked about the fact he had been the object of laughter. I got him a cup of water and let him stay there until he settled down and finally went on his way.
That was my first encounter with an alternative gender. I survived unharmed.
Over my years in radio, I worked among several gay and lesbian individuals and was quite pleased with the fact that many of us became friends. Why? Because I didn’t care. After all, we were all human beings. Heck, I even liked The Village People.
I don’t know how many genders are out there now. I lost track some time ago...probably because that sort of thing makes little difference to me. But now, “Gender Neutral” has arrived; and, once again, I don’t understand.
I find a great deal of comfort in that.
Trail series Updates:
Dakota Trail has now been out a little over a month. David and Ironbear are thrilled with the reception it has gotten. Thank you, everyone.
Now...onto what you really want to know. The 10th book in the TRAIL series is underway!
So far, there isn't a title. Right now, David just refers to it as No Name Trail. But, around 12,300 words have been written and many hours of research has been spent.
Now, if you have read this far, you deserve a little hint of what is to come.
The marshals are returning to a place they have already traveled and revisiting some characters from their past. Old friendships will be renewed, and guns will be blazing. And, that is all the details we can give you without David's consent. (Sorry!)
We can't give you a release date, either. Between needing to do more research and David starting a new round of medication, things will slow down a bit for the next month or so. After that, David and the boys should be able to hit the trail hard.
Dakota Trail, the ebook,...
now available at most major distributors!
Marion, Homer, and Ruben are dispatched to Sioux Falls in the Dakota Territory to investigate the disappearance of another Federal Marshal, James Jacklin. While trying to gather information on Marshal Jacklin, the men come face to face with an entirely new situation that might be related…the kidnapping, selling, and forced prostitution of young Chinese girls. With the support of a determined and wealthy woman, the boys set out to find Marshal James Jacklin and to investigate a brutal market of slavery. Saddle up and join the marshals as they take to the Dakota Trail.
